📣 Understanding Inflammation: Systemic vs. Musculoskeletal 🧐

🔍 Did you know that inflammation can affect our bodies in different ways? Let's explore the key differences between systemic inflammation and musculoskeletal inflammation:

🌐 Systemic Inflammation is inflammation that impacts the entire body or multiple organ systems. This widespread release of inflammatory mediators can be triggered by infections, autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammatory conditions, certain medications or many types of foods.

👉🏻 Symptoms may include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, and generalised pain.

💪 Musculoskeletal Inflammation specifically targets the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, joints, intervertebral discs, tendons, and ligaments.

👉🏻 It's often caused by injuries, repetitive motions, overuse, or musculoskeletal conditions like tendonitis or arthritis. Localised symptoms such as pain, swelling, and limited range of motion are common.

🔬 Treatment approaches vary too:

🌟 For systemic inflammation, addressing the underlying cause and managing symptoms are key. Medications like NSAIDs, corticosteroids, or immunosuppressants may have to be used. However, I believe EVERYONE will benefit from changing their diet, by consuming:

LESS inflammatory foods

MORE anti-inflammatory foods

⚡️ Musculoskeletal inflammation treatment focuses on pain relief, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing.

🧊 Appropriate use of ICE is the first port of call. Physical therapy, pain medications, and sometimes surgery may be necessary, however, I believe EVERYONE will benefit from:

A little knowledge of how your body operates

Knowing what you can do for yourself
